Radio-Diagnosis and Imaging

The Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging at AIMSR has adopted the worlds latest developments in diagnostic equipments and will keep pace with fast-changing technology for quick and accurate results. We are committed to offer the best care and technology to our patients and referring doctors. The Department of Radiology and Imaging is open round the clock for the benefit of patients.

Introduction

The Department boasts of high-quality patient care with world class equipment and highly trained specialists. The department plays a key role in advancing the state of the art imaging technologies including CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), X-Ray (radiography) and ultrasound as well as invasive, image-guided interventional procedures. Hence, there is ample opportunity for growth in clinico-radiological work, teaching and research activities.

Department of Radiology has certified radiologists specializing in various kinds of imaging modalities. We provide excellent-quality, radiation safe and cost effective care to patients through medical imaging. The department integrates imaging with research for further advancement of technology and improved clinical benefits. We maintain highest quality of care in clinical work, procedures and teaching.

Services Rendered

The diagnostic division comprises of four sections: conventional radiography and procedures, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Radiography

The Department is equipped with Digital Radiography system- Computed Radiography. There are multiple X-ray units including X-ray units with IITVs. There are portable X-ray machines which are being routinely used for admitted patients in emergency and wards. There is portable C- Arm being used in Operation Theatres.

Special Radiographic procedures

The radiography services that are being offered include

Barium contrast procedures

Intravenous pyelography (IVP) , MCU, RGU

Sinograms

T tube cholangiography

Hysterosalpingography

Mammography

Screening and diagnostic mammography services are being provided at nominal rates.

Ultrasonography

It is equipped with 4 outpatient Ultrasound with color doppler units. 1 unit ( GE Voluson E8 )is dedicated to 3D/4D imaging in pregnancy.

3 portable Ultrasound units are provided for on bed ultrasound of sick patients.

The ultrasound services provided are-

·  Abdomino-pelvic imaging ( Trans abdominal , Transvaginal and Transrectal)

Obstetric imaging with dedicated studies for anomalies ( 3D/4D )

Small parts sonography with high frequency ultrasound transducers

Colour Doppler imaging (obstetrics and whole body)

Computed Tomography

There is high end 64 slice CT scanner which makes rapid and precise imaging possible. The services provided are-

  • Whole body Imaging
  • CT angiography
  • CT cisternography

The scanner is capable of advanced applications like multiplanar reformatting and 3D volume rendering which provides the exact picture of the disease process to the treating physician and surgeon.

MRI

The Department has the world's best Siemens Avanto 18 channel 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner which is capable of most advanced MR imaging. Dedicated body coil, small and large flex coils, loop coil, knee coil and breast coil is available.

Services offered are Diagnostic Neuroradiology (Including spectroscopy, diffusion and perfusion imaging )

MRI abdomen and Pelvis including MRCP and prostate imaging

Musculoskeletal Imaging

MR mammography

MR Angiographies

Interventional Procedures

The following Imaging guided Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures are routinely done in the department.

USG / CT guided FNAC and Biopsies

PCD   (Percutaneous drainage)

PTBD (Percutaneous Transbiliary Drainage )

PCN   (Percutaneous nephrostomy)

Future plans of the Department : We plan to further our departments growth in the field of teaching and research programs.

Varicose veins are enlarged superficial veins of the legs that look like twisted, bulging chords under the skin. These occur when normal one-way valves no longer function properly, causing blood to flow towards the feet due to the effects of gravity. The blood begins to pool within the veins and over time the veins dilate and leading to varicose veins, throbbing leg pain, swelling, leg fatigue, skin changes, blood clots (deep vein thrombosis), restless leg syndrome and venous ulcers.

Spider veins are blue and reddish thin walled veins that appear very close to the skin surface but are not bulging like varicose veins. They often cover the legs and even the face. They can be treated with sclerotherapy (injection of a chemical into the vein).

Varicose veins can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender or race.

Common Symptoms

Aching, swelling, itching, heavy legs, wounds that fail to heal

Factors that may increase your chances of developing venous insufficiency and varicose veins include:

Family history of varicose veins

Occupations that require prolonged standing

Excess weight

Lack of exercise

Current or previous pregnancies

There are a number of ways to treat varicose veins, some of which are rarely used today. Traditionally, vein stripping surgery was performed under general anaesthesia and required a hospital stay. It was a painful surgery that, while effective, often led to recurrence of varicose veins.

Modern treatments focus on closing the affected vein, allowing blood to reroute to healthier veins. Two popular methods are Laser ablation and glue closure.

Newer Techniques Include: Minimally Invasive Options –

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)

Glue Embolization

Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) uses laser energy to close off the problematic vein. After numbing the leg, your doctor will insert a catheter into the vein. Guided by ultrasound, the laser fiber causes targeted damage along the vein, which collapses and seals it closed.

Procedure Time: The entire process takes about an hour in the doctor’s office, though the actual laser application is brief.
Aftercare: Patients are encouraged to walk immediately post-procedure and continue regular walking over the following weeks.

Vein Glue Treatment for Varicose Veins

Vein Glue, is a newer option that involves a medical adhesive (n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate) to seal off the vein. After numbing the area, your doctor will guide a catheter into the vein and apply the glue at intervals along its length, closing it completely.

Procedure Time: Similar to EVLA, the treatment is about an hour.
Aftercare: Unlike EVLA treatments, compression stockings are typically not required, though some may choose to wear them for added comfort. Regular walking is recommended to encourage healing.

Which Treatment Is Best?

Both treatments are effective, but each patient’s needs vary. In general, vein glue may result in less bruising and discomfort compared to EVLA. Consulting with your vein specialist will help you determine the most suitable approach for your situation.
